 2017 Preview 


       Madison Academy completed the 2016 season with a 11-4 record. Last year Madison Academy captured the region seven title and a number one seed in the Class 4A playoffs. They finished region play with a 5-1 record. The Mustangs won four consecutive playoff games to reach the Class 4A State Championship game only to fall just short of claiming a title. They were defeated by Handley at the Alabama Super Seven 30-7 in Auburn.

       The Mustangs lost as many games as in any season since 2008. The Mustangs had some tough luck last season as three of their four losses were by less than eight points.

       Over the past two seasons the Mustangs have gone 22-6 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Madison Academy has gone a combined 86-15. Their 85.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class 4A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Madison Academy has managed to compile a record of 169-124. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 14th in Class 4A and 105th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2002.

       The Mustangs are led by head coach Grant Reynolds who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 11-4 record in his first season at Madison Academy. Under his direction the Mustangs have qualified for the playoffs once. They have won one region crown with Coach Reynolds.

       Coach Reynolds' overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 11-4 (73.3%).

       The Madison Academy Mustangs will play in Class 4A region seven during the 2017 season.

       While most teams rebuild during the off season, Madison Academy has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Mustangs should be considered one of the favorites for the region seven championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the Mustangs are making another deep run into the playoffs. The Mustangs have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2008 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

       The Mustangs open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent McCallie TN on Friday, August 25 at Bill Washington Stadium.

       Madison Academy and McCallie TN have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Mustangs have a 0-2-0 record against McCallie TN. They last met in with
